So, you’re exhausted
Pandemics are exhausting.
It’s not that we’re doing more. It’s that we’re thinking more.
Exposure, risk, high risk loved ones, analyzing symptoms, counting the days since last exposure, reconfiguring businesses, figuring out the right thing to do (or not do)…
A person would be exhausted from thinking like this for one week. We’ve been doing it for two years.
The problem is, the world is not going to get any less chaotic because we’re exhausted. Nobody is coming to make us less exhausted. We have to do that for ourselves.
Nobody is coming to make us feel less exhausted. We have to do that for ourselves.
A few years ago I ran a race I was grossly under-trained to run. My farthest run was 6 miles on flat road. The race was 11 miles over hilly, muddy, rocky terrain. When my run coach asked what my strategy was, I said I was going to keep running until I couldn’t run anymore.
He laughed.
“We only have so many pennies to spend,” he said. “If you spend them all at once, you’ll have a miserable race. Spend your pennies strategically.”
I took regular walking breaks throughout the entire race. In the beginning, I hated it. I didn't need to walk and I hated walking while people ran past me. But had I skipped my walks in the first half of the race, I would’ve been crawling to the finish line. Instead, I ran.
The world is not going to get less chaotic because we’re exhausted.
Being responsible stewards of our energy is our responsibility.
We can't expect the world to change for us to feel better. It won't and it can't.
If you want to do more of what you love in 2022 but you’re exhausted, I have a gift for you.
Click here to download your free Energy Audit. This is a 10-15 minute journaling exercise that will help you identify what depletes and regenerates your energy, take stock of how you've been spending your time, and make a plan to rebalance your energy levels.
You'll also walk away with a list of things you love to do.
You can do what you love in 2022 and feel more rested, not less. You never have to grind yourself down to create the impact, art, or work you feel called to create.
You have choices. You are responsible. You are in control. Brew a cup of tea, light a candle, and lock the door. Reclaim your energy from the pandemic monster. You're the only one who can.
