Is coaching for me if…?
Is coaching for you if you’re also in therapy? If you don’t know what you want to do? You know what you want to do but…you don't know how to do it? You're already doing what you love but it feels like nothing's working / you're not making much money? You’ve already invested a ton of money into your healing, your business, or your personal development and they haven't really worked?
What if coaching doesn’t work for me?
Let’s get this out of the way first. I’m 100% committed to you and your dream for as long as it takes, no matter what it takes. I am all in. I’m here to get everybody across the finish line. And, I can’t guarantee that you’ll make enough money through your work to leave your job in six months. No coach can. Here’s what I can guarantee.
Don’t worry about your website
Most people don’t need a website when they’re first starting out. The only exception to this is online retailers or use an online shop as a place for people to buy their goods. If this is you – sure, put up the website. But don’t spend too much time or money on it in the beginning. Here’s why.
How to decide when you don’t know
Doing what you love is mostly decision-making. What you do is a decision. How you do it is a decision (read: best guess). Your rates, your marketing, and how you interact or respond to your people? All decisions. Making these decisions is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do… but not because it’s actually hard. Because of all the time you’ll spend trying to find the answer from somebody else, second-guessing yourself, and playing out the worst case scenarios in your mind.
Are you just avoiding something? Or do you really need the rest?
Sometimes, you need to be honest with yourself that you’re resting and don’t need to be. Especially if you’re telling yourself that “you should wait until you’re in the flow,” “you’re just not that inspired,” “you don’t really know what to do,” “nothing is working,” or “you don’t want to be too much.” You need the awareness that rest is one way you avoid doing things that make you uncomfortable.
Thoughts on debt
I've paid for all of my coaches (so far) with a credit card. I used my credit cards as start-up capital for my business…did your palms get sweaty at the thought of putting that much money on credit? For a few minutes, I want to challenge everything you've ever thought about debt. This isn't just about interest rates and responsible spending. This is about racism, sexism, and who has access to wealth. This is about the ways we use neutral circumstances (like debt) to tell ourselves we are bad, not good enough, or irresponsible.
Coaching FAQ’s, Part 2
What’s the focus? Should I interview more than one coach? What’s the difference between coaching and therapy? Let’s dive in.
How often would we meet?
In the beginning, you want as much accountability and support as humanly possible. And you don’t want to be getting that support from a partner or best friend. Hearing hard truths from loved ones can strain or ruin relationships – and most of your friends will have never been where you want to go.
Self-Coaching: Fertilizing your comfrey plant
When you master self-coaching, three things happen: (1) You know exactly what to do (2) You know exactly what to stop doing (3) You feel more calm and peaceful. It’s a three step process. It takes 30 minutes. You’ll begin every single day knowing exactly what to do, what to stop doing, and what you need to be thinking about.
